Abstract

The water issue is one of the most extensive and complex that can be treated. May be studied from different points of view, this is one of the reasons why their integral study is complicated. Currently, the availability and management of this resource is considered as one of the topics with greater potential for conflict in the world. Also happens to be a strategic resource for its implications for social and economic life of the population, as well as the geopolitical and geo-economy countries, so some consider it as a matter of national security. It is an instrument of control and power. It is a tradable good, but at the same time is a public good. In the case of Mexico City involves great technological challenges with high costs. However, you can find the solution to this problem with the creation of a Geographic Information System applied to this issue. In addition you must continue to promote a new culture of water use, allowing use in homes till six times before returning to municipal drainage, to learn to catch rainwater to use it in various daily activities, to have a better and greater control of water use by the relevant authorities to be and avoid excessive marketing and above all that this resource leaves the area of operation in high percentages. It is essential the participation of higher education institutions to this problem design, analyze and evaluate alternative solutions to this problem that take is consideration the hydrological processes, environment and society. All these considerations appear in the analysis of this thesis, with the objective of to show that with the will of all sectors involved, it can think in the water sustainability, in otherwise catastrophic scenarios are envisaged, starting with the health sector to subsequently will pass to the social conflict.
