VARIACIÓN ESPACIAL DE LA EDAD Y CRECIMIENTO DE LA SIERRA DEL PACÍFICO Scomberomorus sierra JORDAN Y STARK EN JORDAN, 1895 (PERCIFORMES: SCOMBRIDAE) EN EL PACÍFICO MEXICANO

Abstract

ABSTRACT The Pacific sierra Scoberomorus sierra is distributed from La Jolla, California, USA to Paita, Piura, Peru, including the Gulf of California and the Galapagos Islands. This species supports an important fishery along the Pacific coast Mexican, with an average landings of 4024 t during 1964 to 2004, including to S. sierra and S. concolor. With the purpose of contributing biological information that cooperates in the integration of a plan of handling of the fishing of this resource, in this study the differences are analyzed from the size to the age and of the individual growth of the Pacific sierra, S. sierra in the Pacific coast Mexican, of November of 2001 to December of 2008. The data were gathered in 12 fishing sites, from Guaymas, Son. and Bahía Magdalena, BCS, until Puerto Arista, Chiapas. Were measured and weighed 8,254 organisms of which were gathered the otolitos to estimate the age at 1,434. Significant differences were detected (Kruskal-Wallis; p<0.05) in the structure of sizes and the size to the age among the fishing sites. Were identified until 9 age groups (1-9), being the groups of age 3, 4, 5 the most representative. The values of average percentage error (APE=1.17%) and the coefficient of variation (CV=1.65%) indicated a high precision in the reading of the number of marks growth among readers. Significant differences were detected (Kruskal-Wallis; p <0.05) when comparing the size-age among the fishing sites. With base to the structure of sizes and the size-age were defined 4 stocks. Later on, the differences were evaluated in the individual growth (ARSS;F9,28=1.83;P=0.023) among the fishing areas. The Analysis of the Sum of Residual Squares (ARSS) did not detect significant differences (p>0.05) in the growth pattern of the pacific sierra between stocks. The growth parameters for Pacific sierra in the Pacific coast Mexican were: L∞= 674 mm FL, k= 0.22, t0= -0.28 years.
