Alimentación de Chione gnidia (Broderip & Sowerby, 1829), C. undatella (Sowerby, 1835) y C. califomiensis (Broderip, 1835) (Veneridae) en la ensenada de La Paz, B.C.S., México

Abstract

A study of the gastric contents of Chione califomiensis, C. gnidia, and C. undatella, sampled in April 1989 in the Ensenada de La Paz, B.C.S., was performed. C. gnidia, distributed in the muddy bottom, had a gastric content composed of 71% phytoplankton and 19% vegetal detritus. The other two Chione species, inhabiting sandy bottoms had only phytoplankton in their gastric ducts. The greatest correspondence (Stander similarity index = 0.8520) was achieved by the gastric contents of C. califomiensis and C. undatella explained by the coexistence of both species in the same habitat. Between C. gnidia and the former two species, gastric content similarity was lower (0.5520 and 0.6409, respectively).
