Resumen : ABSTRACT In this work presents the experimental study for cavitation erosion testing in three types of metallic materials: Aluminum 6061-T6, Bronze SAE 430A and stainless steel AISI 316L. Assays were performed by acoustic cavitation, the guidelines set forth in ASTM G-32-03. The total time of each test material was determined based on data from the literature and the behavior of the wear rate curve with respect to time, ie when it was noted that he had reached the maximum rate of erosion, finished the test, the time is different for each material because the properties of each are different. Are presented and analyzed the results of the cumulative mass loss, the wear rate, Mean Depth of Erosion (MDE), loss of volume, incubation time and maximum rateof erosion, to be comparing the erosion resistance cavitation of the materials. A test was conducted microhardness (HV) to assess the microhardness increase incavitation eroded surface, the footprint generated after the tests were analyzed using X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM) and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The materials presented behavior is consistent with the data from literature, the material with a longer test was the AISI 316L stainless steel with 540 min, then the Bronze SAE 430A with a time of 240 and finally the Aluminum 6061-T6 only 80 min. By comparing the original surface of the damaged surface material by Atomic Force Microscopy, we observed that the roughness changes considerably, on the other hand, when analyzing the trace of wear by scanning electron microscopy, was observed different cavity sizes and plastic deformation, cracking and loosening of material. Through the analysis of X-ray diffraction, we found a change in the three materials, in Aluminum 6061-T6 is a change in grain size, while the Bronze SAE 430A, there was a change in direction grains, finally in stainless steel AISI 316L, presented a phase change. ABSTRACT xiii Finally it was found that the three materials increases the microhardness tests performed after cavitation erosion.
