Composición específica de la captura artesanal de peces en Isla Cerralvo, B.C.S., México

Abstract

In order to determine the principal fish species exploited by the small-scale fishery in Isla Cerralvo, B.C.S., México, samples of the commercial catches were taken during March to November 1988. The monthly relative importance by weight of each species was calculated and, according to its value, three groupings were made. In total, 45 species were identified: 14 of them represent, at least in one month, more than 5% of the capture, 12 species represent1 % to 5% and 19 species lees than 1%. Considering their frequency of capture, relative importance in weight, individual's length and commercial value, it was found that the principal species for the fishery are Lutjanus peru, L. argentiventris, Hoplopargus guentheri, Mycteroperca rosacea, M. xenarcha and Balistes polylepis. Additional information on the fishing season for these and other species is given, as well as a list of scientific and common names of all the species identified during the study.
