Resumen : The average life expectancy has increased worldwide as the geriatric population ever comes over to the emergency department (ED). In Mexico is acute abdominal pain within the first causes of ED visits and so far have not been enough research to show the reality and etiology of the causes that are related to acute abdominal pain (DAA). As the bladder and digestive disease primarily responsible for this reason for consultation in this age group with high mortality and remains a major challenge for early diagnosis. To determine the major causes of acute abdominal pain in elderly patients treated in the emergency department CMNR HGGG. This is a retrospective, transversal, descriptive, epidemiological, and open. Have variables: DAA, DAA causes, age, gender, treatment. Case records of elderly patients treated in the SU with DAA box that met the selection criteria found in the period from June to December 2010, by descriptive analysis for some variables with the aim of explaining the main causes of this complaint. Since only start without invasive investigation is considered a minor risk to a minimum, ensuring that ensure the confidentiality of information. The human material and supplies were provided by the hospital as a whole. Took place during the months of January to February 2011. We analyzed 874 cases in which it was found that the main causes of abdominal pain in the HGGGG CMNR SUA were GEPI (19%), acute cholecystitis (16%) and peptic ulcer disease (13%), being more frequent sex female and age range of 65 to 75 years for both sexes. 2% of patients with AAD were admitted to the ICU due to complications from surgery who underwent due to acute abdominal pain . Abdominal pain is common in the ED and for many reasons, is often a diagnostic challenge. The nature and quality of abdominal pain can be difficult to refer to the patient. Physical examination findings of this complaint are variable and may suggest differentdiagnoses. This study found that the main cause of AAD in this age group is GEPI, followed by biliary patologia boxes, so that we can infer that this be a reflection of the culture of hygienic dietary habits the population studied, the which goes hand in hand with the results observed in the low percentage of patients requiring surgical treatment and the few patients who came to use intermediate care unit
