Descripción : | In this research we perform an analysis on the form in which the comprehension of the Fundamental Theorem of the Calculus can be affected by the conception of the concept of function. The present work was applied to a group of fourteen first year students of the Science Faculty and the Engineering Faculty at the Universidad del Valle (Cali – Colombia). We show two results: The first one show a quantitative study, in which there were recorded the measurements done with regard to the students’ conception of the concept of function, as process and/or as object, from Anna Sfard and David Tall points of view, and how this conception is affecting the comprehension of the Fundamental Theorem of the Calculus. The second one shows a cognitive type study in which it is explained how students activate their cognitive schemes, in order to achieve successful developments while solving mathematical problems. For this we followed an adaptation of the Piaget’s approach on the comprehension. |
