Resumen : Due to problems caused by the indiscriminate use of synthetic plastics and their persistence in the environment, the interest in developing new materials to give place to a generation of biodegradable plastics has increased. To meet this challenge, an alternative is to produce biofilms such as the gelatin/glycerol based films, incorporated with an element that contributes to improve the mechanical properties of biopolymer systems, as is the case of carbon nanotubes (CNT). The aim of this work, was to develop biodegradable films based on gelatin/glycerol mixtures and CNT, at different concentrations (previous dispersion with sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) in aqueous solution), and to evaluate their effect on the film´s physical, physicochemical, mechanical and structural properties. Four types of films were produced by the casting method, with the following formulations: GG (gelatin/glycerol); GGCNT1, GGCNT2 and GGCNT4 (Gelatin/glycerol with 0.001, 0.002 and 0.004% of CNT respectively). The CNT addition in the GG films decreased the lightness (L*) value, showing a tendency to darken. During the evaluation of the mechanical properties, films exhibited characteristics of a strong flexible film by the increase in the elongation percent (%E) from 139% on GG to 166% on GGCNT4. An opposite behavior was noted for GG, showing high values of tensile strength (TS) and elastic module (EM) (24.94 and 16.35 MPa respectively), which are typical characteristics of brittle and rigid materials. The water vapor permeability (WVP) increased significantly in all CNT films. It went from 2.53 X10-10 for GG to 7.38X10-10 g Pa-1 s-1 m-1 for GGCNT4; similarly, the solubility percent increased. The results of the X-ray diffraction and the thermal parameters, indicated that CNT addition produced films with a slightly less crystalline structure by reducing the crystallinity percent and the values of thermal parameters evaluated. The results previously described were correlated with image analysis (IA) parameters. The values of the surface and texture fractal dimension, suggested that films with a regular and homogeneous surface, were obtained with highest CNT addition. The percentage area occupied by the CNT in the gelatin polymer matrix was calculated, finding the highest value (44.79%) for GGCNT4, with an r2=0.9856, indicating a good CNT dispersion
