LARVAS DE PECES RECOLECTADAS DURANTE DOS EVENTOS EL NIÑO EN LA COSTA OCCIDENTAL DE BAJA CALIFORNIA SUR, MÉXICO, 1958-1959 Y 1983-1984

Abstract

The distribution and abun¬dance of fish larvae collected during a period that includes the anomalous warm event El Niño (1983-1984) is presented. The larvae were sampled on three oceanographic surveys conducted during May and September 1983, and May 1984, off the west coast of Baja California Sur. Results were compared with historical data of previously El Niño event occurred during 1958-1959. The complete check-list were integrated by different taxa grouped in 90 genera, 58 families and 17 orders of fishes. The larvae of tropical species were abundant around Punta Eugenia, related with the influence of warm waters during El Niño, 1958-1959 and 1983-1984. However, the distribution of Opisthonema sp., Benthosema panamense and Auxis spp. larvae showed significant range extensions attributed to El Niño 1983-1984, compared with previously published northernmost range, as far north as Punta Abreojos-Punta Eugenia (27°-28°N).
