dc.description.abstractOverweight and obesity have become a public health problem in several countries, Mexico included; nowadays this disease reaches epidemic rates around the world. Obesity is caused by the misbalance between the caloric ingestion and energy consumption, reason why it is needed control the sugar consumption of Mexican people. Moreover Mexico is among the principal consumers of sweetened beverages, according to the National Association of Producers of Soft Drinks and Carbonated Water. In 2007 Mexicans consumed 160.1 liters per person per year of soda. This means that sweetened beverages represent between 27.8% and 20.7% of the daily caloric consumption on children in school ages, which possibly represents the development of young obesity.es
