Is fundamental for any country's transport system (air, land and sea), the latter is an element of transcendence because currently 80% of world trade is run by shipping and over 50% of GDP (gross domestic product) comes maritime tourism activity., Within the infrastructure of the port system, we found the port protection works, which have the primary role of creating a calm area for the arrival of vessels, loading, unloading of the goods they carry different. These structures called breakwaters can be built in its shell with rocks or artificial elements within this we find the idols, which are the subject of this work, which focuses on studying and observing the behavior and movements that have these elements in irregular waves affect him under storm conditions in order to validate a design equation idols under the concept of irregular waves, allowing us to reliably determine its weight and volume. To conduct the study, a physical model at fixed background of a section of permeable surface breakwaters idols, with 1.5:1 side slopes and sea port side, designed under the concept of not exceeding, that section was built in a narrow wave flume with dimensions; approximately 24.45 m long, 0.66 m wide and approximately 0.90 m deep rough, located in the Hydraulic Engineering Laboratory of the College of Engineering and Architecture Unit Zacantenco the IPN. The data were considered for the construction of breakwaters, were taken from an analysis in various protection works with artificial elements Mexican Ports. For the construction of the model is considered a willful weight of 19 t. Also used a digital camera and a video camera to capture the effects of waves on the data section of the breakwater in more detail. Among the conclusions drawn from the study, it can be mentioned that the structure in the shell layer (where they were placed the idols) performed well in not giving any kind of damage that could affect its efficiency for which it was designed. On the side of the equation validation (Burchart and Liu, 1992), gives reliable results is to determine weights and volumes of the dolos. It also presents and partially used in the thesis, a digital imaging technique to observe damage to the breakwater built with dolos.es
